"It is not poverty that generates corruption, but corruption that generates poverty, and with it injustice, bad public services and a fragile democracy."
(Teten Masduki, Coordinator, Indonesia Corruption Watch)
In 2005, in their answers to the questionnaire for the "Global Corruption Barometer", drawn up by Transparency International every year, 22% of the Romanians said they had given backhander during the year. Out of them, only 20% said they had been asked backhander directly. 80% considered it implicit and offered it of their own will.
Corruption, small or big, endangers Romania`s EU integration. It affects our economic development, but also the European taxpayers, through the permanent risk of frauding funds.
Both sides are guilty for this state of things: the one who takes, but also the one who gives! The time has come for you to act. EXPOSE backhander!
- file a penal complaint,
- file a denunciation,
- make a complaint by phone or by e-mail
WARNING !
A complaint can be filed only by the victim (or her husband and her major children), while a denunciation can be filed by any person who has knowledge that an offence has been committed.
The money, the values or the goods that made the object of the offence shall be confiscated or their cash equivalent shall be paid.
If not caught in the act, giving or taking bribe are difficult to establish. Without witnesses, it is difficult to prove the act, and the person whose image was prejudiced can open civil action for calumny or insult.
1. Because you CAN STOP doing it! It is in your power to fight corruption. It is very simple: don’t pay anything for services you are entitled to.
2. Because YOU CARE about the others! You cannot encourage such behaviour. If you keep giving, the ones without resources will not benefit from the rights or services they are entitled to.
3. Because it is not CORRECT! Clerks are paid for the services they are offering you. Through the taxes you pay, you contribute to their salaries. Why pay twice?
4. Because it can be DANGEROUS! Corruption acts are offences and are punished according to the law. Why risk your liberty?
5. Because it is AGAINST your interests! Why create a precedent? You give once, you will always give. It is not for your benefit to feed a vice !
6. Because you LOSE money! Why allocate a part of your benefits to stimulate corruption?
7. Because you BECOME ONE OF THEM! To give is as harmful as to take. Through your act you only encourage those you blame.
